“ Walton Shield Final – Sunday 18th October 2025
The final of the Walton Shield, a Mixed Pairs Matchplay Knockout competition for players aged 55 and over, was contested between Paul Stanford & Jude McManus and Geoff Moss & Linda Houston.
This year’s event saw 15 teams enter, each navigating three competitive rounds to earn their place in the final.
Played on a cold but dry autumn day, the course was in excellent condition given the time of year, providing a fair and challenging setting for the concluding match.
The final began cautiously, with the first three holes halved as both pairs settled into the contest. Geoff and Linda then began to apply pressure, gaining momentum and finishing the front nine 3 up. However, Paul and Jude mounted a spirited comeback on the back nine, drawing level by the 13th hole.
Despite falling one down on the 14th, Geoff and Linda responded decisively, winning the next three holes to secure victory with a 2 & 1 margin”.
