The Captains’ Away Day Report – 11th July 2025
Captains Carolyn Fox and Lee Machin hosted their 2025 away day at the beautiful Welcombe Golf Club in Stratford-Upon-Avon on Friday, 11th July.
The stunning course, framed by the backdrop of Welcombe Hall, provided the perfect setting for a memorable day.
It turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year so far, with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees. All 56 members who joined us did their best to stay cool under the blazing sun — generously applying sunscreen and keeping well-hydrated throughout the day.
The winning team consisted of Linda Houston, Ken Garbet, Andy Richmond, Simon White, shooting an amazing 91 points, 7 shots clear of the team in 2nd place. (See Covering Photograph)
There was a particularly memorable moment when the “Golf Buggy Police” had to step in and revoke the buggy-driving licence of our esteemed ex Seniors’ Captain, Ian Renhard. His dramatic slow-motion encounter with the bell post on the 12th hole saw the rear end of his buggy lift high into the air and stuck in place as Ian knocked the post flat onto the group! Rumour has it the Campanology Society has even written a letter expressing their
concern over such a blatant disregard for bell etiquette…
