After weeks of hot, sunny, dry weather, the rain deluged the course the day before the Terry Mathews Salver was due to be played.
Would the day itself be a washout? Fortunately, not, although it was overcast and a bit chilly, it was dry throughout and the rain helped make the course a little more playable. None of that held back the first pairings of Geoff Strike/Dave Archer and James Lowe /Steve Clorley. They scorched around the course, leaving the others in their wake, and for James and Steve, they did the same with their scoring. With 46 points, they came in 2 ahead of the field, had a drink, and left before the last card was returned. Fortunately, they were persuaded to overcome their fears of “it will jinx it” and agreed to have their photo taken before they left. (See covering Photograph)
In second place came Jon Cofield and Anthony Pallante with 44 points and third were Chris Alton and Sue Dix with 42. The full list of scores can be found on HowDidiDo.
Overall, the quality of scoring was excellent with 5 teams reaching the magic score of 42, which means their handicaps will be subject to scrutiny and adjustment if appropriate.
A big thank you to everyone who entered and to Dave Jackson for doing a lot of the admin leading up to and on the day itself.
