SUMMER SCRAMBLE REPORT
The BGC Summer Scramble took place on Sunday 20th June, considering it was Father’s Day, we were impressed by how many members took part.
128 members in total played in the event which was played on a typical English Summer day, which consisted of Grey skies, light rain showers, and a temperature that struggled to reach 17 degrees.
This didn’t deter our enthusiastic entrants with the first team out at 6-53 am and other teams then departing at 9-minute intervals until 12-00.
As usual, the event was closely contested by all. The eventual winners were the Father and Son pairing of Andrew & Sam Richmond who were joined by Simon White & Kevin Holmes with a brilliant nett score of 50.
4 teams achieved a score of 51, with the team of Matt Dale, Shaun Bowen, Woody Jones and Mike Jones coming 2nd on countback.
3rd place went to Jon Bird, Nick Lake, Alexander Lane & Milan Pejovic.
The best gross score on the day was achieved by Andrew & Tom Blizzard, Scott Whitworth & Steven Jones who recorded a superb Gross Score of 58.
It was encouraging to see 12 teams finish within 3 shots of the leaders.
Many members wish to pass on their thanks to the Greenkeepers for the course presentation and the excellent conditions of the greens congratulations to Mark Cunningham and his team. One unexpected star of the show was the new “Thin Pin” flag poles recently purchased At nearly half the size of a normal flagstick, a mere 8mm diameter, it leaves more space for the ball to enter the hole, something we can all appreciate.
