22 teams took part in this year’s Summer Scramble on Saturday 8th July. The weather was okay on the day despite the occasional shower but the uncertainty in the forecast (with possible storms expected early in the afternoon) resulted in the BBQ being moved under cover. The catering staff still provided burgers and hot dogs throughout the afternoon and the ‘guest’ cocktail (Pina Colada) proved so popular that one of the key ingredients, coconut milk, had run out by late afternoon but other alcoholic beverages were still available for the party animals!
The competition was fiercely contested and despite some tricky pin positions, the scoring was exceptionally good.
The Summer Scramble Salver was won by Nick Lake, Joe Lonergan, Alex Lane and Milan Pejovic with a nett 51 (better back 9 of 23.5 nett). Runners up were Geoff Forrester, Tony Dienn, Jeff Rushton and Thegan Moodley (nett 51, back 9 of 26.5) and third place went to the three-man team of John Wall, Peter Hogan and Barry Smart (nett 51, back 9 of 27) who had to use four drives each.
The best gross score went to Seth Leher, Tom Brittain, Dan Downes and Club Champion, Rod Armstrong with a nine under par 59 (better back 9 of 30) from Stewart Wilson, Michael Cooper, Rich Shirley and Andy Wilson (gross 59, back 9 of 31).
Another great day was had by all involved and the course was presented in fantastic condition which enabled a lot of teams to shoot some very low scores, which everybody always enjoys!
