Summer Scramble 2026
The Summer Scramble took place on Saturday the 4th July with the 250th Anniversary of American Independence the last thing on the mind of the 98 golfers who formed 25 teams to compete for this prestigious trophy.
The course was in great condition thanks to the hard work of the greens’ staff, who continued to battle the hot weather and lack of rainfall to maintain a challenging track for the Scramble Teams. The temperature topped 28oC but thankfully a cooling breeze gave some respite from the heat.
With the fairways running fast, keeping the ball in play from the tee was key to giving access to the greens for the opportunity to score those much needed birdies.
Going out first Greg Hill, Carl Pugh, David Jackson and Keith Plowman (nett 50.4) set the early pace, holding the nett lead for an hour and a half before teams started dipping under nett 50. Ultimately six teams bettered this mark with the top three teams being separated by 0.1 stroke.
Coming out on top, the team of Dave Waldon, Zarad Manning, Ryan Cooke and Tom Lewis (48.6) squeezed home by the smallest of margins from Mike Small, Philip Davis Sarah Crane and Michael Crane (48.7), who saved his compulsory third drive of the round for the 18th hole! Last out Darren Shaw, David Atkinson, Karl Fletcher and Alex Holden (48.7) kept the scorers on their toes coming in third and losing out to second place on a back 9 card countback.
The Gross competition was won by the team of Ryan Coy, Phil Yeadon, Richard Shirley and Ray Cole matching the 55 strokes of the Solstice Scramble! – The full set of results are shown below.
Our thanks go to all of the competitors for a well-supported day of golf and to Annoesjka Plummer and Dave Ellerton for manning the Competition Desk.
