Solstice Scramble 2026
The Solstice Scramble is a 4-person team event with a single score to count on every hole.
In a change to previous years the competition featured two flights of competitors, with the morning flight teeing off between 8am and 11am and the afternoon flight teeing off between 4pm and 5pm. This resulted in 108 golfers forming 27 teams for the day’s competition.
The course was in superb condition thanks to the hard work of the greens’ staff, particularly given the hot conditions in the run up to the day and their hard work in preparation was really appreciated. The weather, record high temperatures and clear skies, saw golfers seeking shade and any form of breeze as they circumnavigated the course, buggies were at a premium!
With the fairways running fast and the greens in superb condition there was the opportunity for some great scoring and the teams didn’t disappoint!
Going out in the morning flight and setting a target that ultimately couldn’t be beaten, the team of Peter Shipway, Graham Solomon, Gwyn Jones and Ivor Woods produced a score of 45.6 to win the nett competition; with Jay Davis, Kevin Smith, James Pearson and Colin McLelland (47.8) taking second and the team of Scott Harris, Mat Dale, Kevin Butler and John Newnes (48.7) completing the podium places.
The Gross competition was won by the team of Ryan Coy, David James, Richard Shirley and Richard Alsop with a course busting 55 strokes! – The full set of results are shown below.
Our thanks go to all of the competitors for a well-supported day of golf, the only dampener for those that stayed behind in the bar was the lacklustre performance of the England team in their World Cup game against Ghana! – better things to come!
