Senior Captains’ Away Day
48 Seniors ventured forth into the Black Country and beyond to sample the delights of The Mount Golf Club in Perton. Some had very circuitous routes in getting there, but everyone arrived – eventually.
The course was running very fast, unsurprising in the current weather conditions, but the greens had been well watered and proved to be a fair test of putting.
In spite of the directions round the course being included in the Captain’s Pack, for the more difficult holes to find, it was team 9 (Deryck I won’t embarrass your team members by mentioning them here) who managed to get lost on one of the easier holes to find, and disappeared off to the right, only to return 5 minutes later, cross the back of the green and exit stage left.
It was particularly (in)appropriate that, on the hottest day of the year so far, the menu selected for the day was a Roast Beef Dinner, with all the trimmings. Fortunately, this was followed by Chocolate Brownie and ICE CREAM. The food was excellent, and we expressed our appreciation to the chef and staff at The Mount for a superb meal.
The golfing standards displayed were of the highest order, with the team of Dave Ellerton, James Lowe, Paul Thomas and Linda Houston winning a close battle, with a score of 98 points. See covering photograph with Lady Captain Carolyn Fox and Seniors Captain Paul Stanford.
Just behind in second place were Lee Machin (Honorary Senior for the day), Dave Kelley, John Davidson and Carolyn Fox, on 97 points, with a better back 9 than Dave Cockle, Stewart Tibbatts, Ian Keay and Jan Harris, also on 97 points. A full list of the final scores can be found below.
Our thanks to Steph Baines, Richard Fox, Jude McManus and Leslie Ford for their help on the day, and to everyone who contributed to the raffle prizes.
£150 has been donated to the Captain’s Charities for the year, Prostate Cancer and UK Bowel Cancer Research, from the sale of extra balls and an auction held on the day.
Only a hardy 4 stayed on after the meal to sample the delights of the Adventure Golf. Braving the dinosaurs, Jude McManus put on a superb display of putting with a string of 2’s which left the rest of the field floundering amongst the bones and eggs of a very well maintained crazy golf course.
