Porter Dickson Cup, 19 July 2026

Sunday 19th July, the final day of the 154th Open Championship and 52 golfers gathered at Bromsgrove Golf Club to contest the Porter Dickson Cup. The Betterball Stableford format with two scores to count always brings out the best in teamwork, and as players made their way to the first tee you could sense the teams settling into their pre-round routines as they prepared for the contest.

The weather played its part beautifully, hot but not oppressive, with a light breeze drifting across the fairways, it was the kind of day that invites confident swings and bold decisions. And the field certainly responded.

At Royal Birkdale the golf was absorbing with the Fox leaving it late as Ryan secured victory with the final putt of the day. At Bromsgrove it couldn’t have been more different with three Foxes in the field and one of them, our very own Peter, leading from the start with the team of Pete Fox, Carl Pugh, Greg Hill, and Joe Lonergan producing a performance worthy of the trophy. Their 92 points, the first score in, stood at the top of the leaderboard for the whole day.

The chasing pack didn’t make it easy with the team of Ryan Coy, Mat Dale, Mike Jones, and John Newnes only three points behind, their 89‑point effort reflecting a round full of grit and momentum. Just a single point further back, two teams tied on 88, with the team of Michael Cooper, Andrew Wilson, James Alexander and Alister Rutherford taking third place on a card countback.

The Porter Dickson Cup once again delivered a day to remember.

Congratulations to the winning team, and well played to every golfer who took part. The spirit of the event — friendly, competitive, and proudly Bromsgrove — was alive from first tee to the final handshake.
