Mixed Open Report
On a very hot Sunday, 30 pairs came to Bromsgrove to take part in our first Mixed Open at Bromsgrove for many years. We had entries from as far away as Oxfordshire and many from the local vicinity. It was a challenging day at 36 degrees and a little breeze.
The format was 4BBB Stableford with 2 scores to count on Par 4s and Par 5s and both scores to count on all Par 3s. There was a nearest the pin competition for the Ladies on the 3rd and a longest drive competition for the Men on the 18th. The course was running fast with unpredictable bounces leading to quite a few ball searching. The pace was slow and even though tee times were 10 mins apart, the heat and the unpredictability of ball positioning meant that towards the end of the field, games were taking in excess of 5 hours. However, everyone was very magnanimous about this and although regrettable, nobody complained. Alan, the starter, gave out iced water on the 10th tee which was very, very welcome and Mark brought out icopops during the round. Never has an iced drink been more welcome!
Everyone enjoyed a homemade scone with cream and jam on their return to the Clubhouse along with unlimited tea and coffee which was thoroughly welcome. Many thanks to Sean and his staff for the delightful way in which they welcomed players back to the Clubhouse.
The feedback on the course and the warm welcome that players received was widely commented on. Some pairs are looking forward to coming back and playing the course when it is greener!
Prizes were awarded to the top three pairs and there was a prize for the highest placed pair with a combined age of over 120 years. A list of the winners is attached. Congratulations to all winners. The full results can be found here Results Bromsgrove GC Mixed Open 2022
