Men’s TOFFS Trophy Final

Men’s TOFFS Trophy Final

Result: Geoff Moss (25.9) Won 3 + 2 against Chris McHale (20.1)

 Report:

The Men’s TOFFs Trophy is a singles Matchplay knockout competition which started on 1st May 2026.   The competition was contested by 38 entries over 6 rounds culminating in today’s final, so congratulations go to the 2 finalists, pictured below, Chris on the left and Geoff on the right.

It was a typical autumn day, overcast with some rain and sunny intervals.  The course was in good condition with the fairways starting to recover from the prolonged hot and dry summer.  The greens were also in good condition.  The bunkers being GUR only came into play a couple of times.  Our thanks to the groundskeepers for all their effort over a very challenging few months.

The final was played in good spirit by both players with Chris giving Geoff 7 shots.

Geoff took a 3-hole lead by the 5th hole.  The 6th hole was a half and Chris took the 7th to bring the score back to Geoff 2 up.  With the rain overnight and during the match, the grass proved very slippery especially around the bunkers as Geoff can testify, having lost his footing and ending up falling into the fairway bunker on the 8th hole, landing heavily.  Despite his fall he still managed to win the 8th hole, with Chris taking the 9th hole, so at the turn, the score was Geoff 2 up.

A half on the 10th and Chris winning the 11th got the match back to Geoff 1 up.  Geoff then took the next 3 holes so was 4 up by the 14th, leaving the match dormie 4.  Chris then took the 15th hole, but a half on the 16th gave the match to Geoff 3 and 2, ( Cover Picture shows Geoff holding the trophy).

Our thanks go to Gary McCartney for refereeing the match and for this report.
