Ladies Club Championship 2026

Ladies Club Championships 2026

The weekend of 6th and 7th June saw the ladies of BGC come together to compete for the titles of Ladies Club Champion and Ladies Net Champion.

With the weather forecast looking rather questionable, we knew this year’s competition was going to be interesting, to say the least. The course, however, was looking absolutely stunning, with the greens in particular the best they have been in a long time, allowing the balls to run beautifully true.

Day one saw nine ladies take to the field. The morning started dry, but as the clouds closed in, it soon became clear that we were not going to outplay the rain. On came the waterproofs and up went the umbrellas. By the 16th hole, everyone was suitably soaked.

Nevertheless, by the time the ladies arrived back in the clubhouse, they were all smiling and happily talking through their rounds. The highlight of the day was Junior Captain Henrietta “Hetty” Walsh very nearly breaking the ladies’ course record, narrowly missing a six-foot putt. Hetty was the clear leader after day one with an impressive gross 73.

Day two saw a further six ladies join us to compete for the Net prize. Thankfully, the weather forecast was a little brighter and, apart from a brief smattering of rain, we were able to focus fully on the golf rather than the rivulets of water running down our noses.

It was another fantastic day of golf, with the ladies once again coming in smiling and commenting on how lovely our course is looking and playing. Despite a monumental effort from Ladies Scratch Team Captain Anne Hollman-Bunn, who mounted the strongest challenge over the weekend, Hetty’s outstanding first-round score had given her a commanding advantage. Maintaining her composure on day two, Hetty proved to be the runaway winner across the two days and a thoroughly deserving Ladies Club Champion.

In the Net competition, Samantha Avent rose magnificently to the occasion and produced the best round of golf she has ever played at BGC. Samantha held her nerve and delivered when it mattered most. Her excellent play secured the title of Ladies Net Champion and was a fitting reward for all her hard work and perseverance throughout the season.

Results

Ladies Club Champion (Gross) – Henrietta Walsh – 151 Gross

Ladies Net Champion – Samantha Avent – 68 Net

A particular thank you must go to Michelle Parry, who spent much of the weekend calculating, checking, inputting and verifying scores. Her hard work behind the scenes, after long hours of golf, was invaluable and very much appreciated.

Thank you also to the BGC staff in the centre, who always look after us so well, and to the greenkeepers and ground staff, who make the course what it is.

It was a fantastic weekend, full of great golf, good humour and true BGC spirit. We are already looking forward to next year’s Championships.
