The Final of the Greensomes Cup, 5th OCTOBER 2024
The Greensomes Cup is a Match Play knockout competition for teams of two (men or ladies but not mixed).
24 entrants vied for the trophy over five rounds culminating in the final played on Saturday 5 October 2024.
The final was contested between Richard Baller partnered with Colin McLelland against Richard Alsop and Shaun Bowen.
They are photographed on the tee from left to right.

The match began being played in ideal golfing conditions, with pleasant temperatures, but by the 9th hole the wind had picked up and on the back 9 holes made for some interesting shots. Thanks go to the grounds staff for all their efforts in maintaining the course throughout the year.
Although Richard and Colin received 10 shots against Richard and Shaun, this was a very even match. Over the front 9 holes, there were 5 halves and both pairs won two holes each, leaving the match all square at the turn.
Holes 10 to 17 went very similar with 4 halves and each pair winning two holes each. Unfortunately, the poor referee lost the plot on the 13th (code for bored calling out halve or all square) and had a wrong score for the hole. But after viewing the VAR all 4 players proved they were still concentrating and the correct score was agreed.
So, we come to the 18th hole with Richard and Colin on for 4. However, Richard and Shaun were on for 3 leaving a 20-foot putt for a birdie. Up steps Richard Alsop, who carefully lined up his putt, holing out for the birdie and the match.
Congratulations to all four players for reaching the Greensomes Cup final and playing a friendly contest throughout.
