What a fantastic day we had for the annual Fare and Feather shotgun start played on 4th December, even the weather eventually played ball, after a few days of stormy conditions, that culminated in the course being closed due to a covering of snow on Friday.
Over 100 members arrived early on Saturday morning to find Edwards bar and restaurant busy for breakfast orders from 7.00 am before competitors headed off to their designated tees just before 8.00 am. The BGC klaxon was sounded instead of the shotgun at 8.00 am on the dot and play started in dull and overcast conditions, thankfully the sun soon broke through and provided superb playing conditions.
Thanks to our greenkeepers for presenting the course so well in trying conditions. Thanks also to the committee and event coordinators, with a special mention to our Lady Captain, elect Anne Wakelam for their efforts in providing a brilliant event that was enjoyed by so many.
Finally, BGC is a unique complex with many aspects that perfectly dovetail together, our grateful thanks are extended to Mr John Bunn, Gary, Sarah, and James the team at Midlands Golf/ Bromsgrove for providing the food &refreshments at the presentation afterwards, it was a fantastic gesture, appreciated by all that played.
The event itself was a very closely fought better ball Stableford, won by Ayden Copson and Tony Pratt with a superb 41 points, (see picture receiving the trophy from Captains Bernard Jones and Angela Smith) second place went to Mike Crane and Gabriel Ozique on 40 points with John Brothwood and Peter Fox third on a countback. Some 13 teams scored 37 points or better.
