Dallaway Shield – 24 May 2026
75 expectant golfers set out in the rising heat, looking forward in anticipation to playing some sizzling golf in pursuit of the Dallaway Shield. Early starters, James Whitehouse and Lee Robinson made the best use of the cooler part of the day to return a score of 45, which eventually proved to be the best score of the day. James and Lee left before the competition was closed and so it was not possible to take a picture of them holding their trophy, but there is a picture of them attached to this report, taken at a different course.
About half way through the field came Richard Fox, this time playing with his wife Carolyn. With 44 points Richard was unable to repeat his success of earlier in the week and he had to settle for just a podium place in this competition.
The last group out, so facing the worst of the heat were Dan Downes and Ollie Bates. They also returned a score of 44 points and on countback were able to secure second place. Golf is always a game of “what if’s”, and “if only’s”. In this case, if only they hadn’t started with a blob on hole 1.
Many thanks to the greenkeeping staff who presented the course in superb condition and to the centre staff for their assistance during the day. A special thank you to Mrs Renhard who, on her birthday, allowed her husband Ian to help out on the day, that help proving to be invaluable when having to deal with last minute changes to the field.
Congratulations to everyone who managed to complete the 18 holes in the heat, you were all winners.
