Captains Away Day

REPORT ON THE CAPTAIN’S AWAY DAY

AT BRIDGNORTH GOLF CLUB

FRIDAY 10^TH JULY 2026

Both Stephanie and I are very grateful to all the 57 players that joined us for our Away Day.

We also thank Carolyn, Sharon, Richard, Nick and Noosh for their help and support in handling the scorecards and raffle / mulligan sale and also to all the Bridgnorth GC staff who supported us during the day.

We had 15 teams who played a 4-ball Stableford competition with 2 to score, on a day when the temperatures were in the early 30 degrees.  Well done to all the players for completing the course.

Conscious of the extreme heat we were due to encounter, we provided 120 bottles of water as well as fruit and biscuits to the players.  In addition, at the Halfway House we had cans of beer and pop available.  As to be expected these were well received by all.

The day started with everyone enjoying a hearty breakfast before going out to play the golf.  On arrival entrants could purchase raffle tickets (we had over 30 prizes to win) as well as Mulligans to help improve their scores.

Bridgnorth had suffered from the same drought conditions as Bromsgrove, but we received positive feedback on the course conditions from the players.

After the golf we all sat down to a post-match meal of Chicken Supreme and vegetables followed by sticky toffee pudding.  Everyone said they enjoyed the breakfast and post-match meal.

As regards the golf, there were prizes for the 3 teams with the highest scores, for the teams with the best front and back 9s.  In addition, there were Nearest the Pin prizes for the men on holes 3 and 16 and for the ladies in 2 on holes 9 and 14.

The main prize winners were

1^st Place      Lisa Smith, Stephanie Baines and Gary McCartney with a score of 94 points who collected a golf shirt each (please no jokes about winning your own competition as an independent adjudicator who will remain anonymous validated the score).

2^nd Place     Janet Slade, Geoff Moss, Lee Machin and Mike Edwards scored 90 points and collected £30 in Midland Golf vouchers each.

3^rd Place     This was decided by count back and Annoesjka Plummer, Jeff Rushton, Nick Lake and Peter Baker scoring 88 points, collected £20 in Midland Golf vouchers each.

The Best Front and Back 9, and NTP winners all received a bottle of wine each.

Best Front 9 on 49 points and decided by count back were Jude Mcmanus, Chris McHale, Darren Shaw and Dave Jackson.

Best Back 9 scoring 49 points went to Michelle Parry, Scott Harris, Karl Fletcher and Chris Melbourne.

Both the NTP prizes for the ladies in 2 went to Michelle Parry who holed out in 2 on the 9^th hole.

NTP prizes for the men on the 3^rd hole went to Michael Bowen and on the 16^th went to Lee Machin.

Three cash prizes were also given to the holders of Mulligan tickets drawn at random.
