Captains Away Day

Captains’ Away Day at Sapey on Friday July 8t

The Captains’ Away Day was organised by Anne and Christian at Sapey Golf Club on July 8th and took place in glorious, sunny weather which is always a bonus.

Twenty-four enthusiastic golfers took part in a team comp of 2 scores to count Stableford of teams of 4 with mostly 3 gents and 1 lady on each team.

For added interest, there was an individual competition over 9 ‘hidden’ holes. There were 4 divisions of ‘Longest Drive’ on the 18th, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Ladies and a Nearest the pin for the men on the 6th and Nearest the Pin in 2 on the 3rd. Mulligans were very useful on these holes…!

The course was in fine condition, although we found the greens played quite slow and took some getting used to!

There was much comment about how good our greens are playing. However, everyone agreed what a pretty course it was especially in the sunshine. Play progressed well and no one encountered any holdups and the rounds were completed in about 4 hours 20 which was welcome in the heat.

Sapey Golf Club looked after us exceedingly well with bacon rolls and coffee to start and the dinner of Homemade Lasagne, Chips, Salad and Garlic bread followed by Cheesecake, Raspberry Compote and ice cream went down well.

The raffle and mulligans raised £545 in aid of the Captains’ Charities Breast Cancer Now and Prostate Cancer UK which was a tremendous amount. Thank you, everyone!

Many thanks to our golf pros, Rob, Tom and Josh for donating free lessons each and also to John Bunn of Midlands Golf for his generous donation of prizes which are exchangeable if anyone wishes.

It was a fantastic day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a lot of friendly banter and it was commented on how nice it was to have mixed teams which made a refreshing change! Thank you to Rich Tattersfield and Paul Cotterill for joining us as the captains’ guests and who both said how much they had enjoyed it.

A big thank you to Michelle and Rich for their help on the day…your turn next!
