The Ann Morris Bowl is an individual match play competition for ladies starting in May and finishing in September.
The climax of the competition is the final which was played on Tuesday 9th September in warm sunny weather between See cover photograph, Kerry (L) Janet (R)
We were pleased that no rain was forecast after heavy rain the day before. After some rain over the last two weeks the course was in better condition though still very dry and hard in places. Scheduled maintenance was taking place on the greens which were not easy with a lot of sand slowing the balls down.
Despite the course conditions both players played some great golf with the Janet using her 7 strokes to her advantage going ahead on the 2nd and 4th holes. Kerry fought back and with Janet finding the bunkers on the 5th and 7th the match was all square going into the 9th. Good play by Janet put her one up at the turn. Holes 10 and 11 were strongly contested with Janet 3 up at the start of the 12th. Kerry won the next 2 holes and with a long drive and on the edge of the green in two the 15th was halved with Janet using her last shot. Into the 16th with Janet two up but unfortunately Kerry went into the water and even though her next shot (3 off the tee) was in a great position on the green Janet won the hole and the match 3 & 2.
Well done to both players for reaching the final and some great golf in not easy conditions.
