Five Rivers Competitions
In a new initiative, the Five Rivers organisation, a local fostering agency, offered to sponsor a series of Stableford competitions during the week beginning October 20th, with a men’s competition on Tuesday, a Ladies event on Thursday, and a mixed competition on Saturday.
Organising three extra events at relatively short notice was something of a challenge, but the club is always keen to support the local community, and this was an opportunity to raise the profile of a very worthwhile agency that provides important support to families, children and young people. Five Rivers maintained a presence in the club entrance foyer throughout the three days and were able to explain the work that they do to interested members and visitors, as well as carrying out a short presentation to lady members after Thursday’s competition had finished.
Several members worked hard and gave up their time to make the week a success, with particular thanks to Anne and John Wakelam, Richard Fox, Gary McCartney, Ian Renhard and captains Carolyn Fox and Lee Machin.

The BGC staff gave great support especially Mark Laing who ensured the days ran smoothly. Thanks also to Emma Hastler (a member at BGC) from Five Rivers, whose idea this was originally. As is so often the case, Midland Golf contributed generously to raffle prizes.

The generous sponsorship meant that up to five prizes were awarded in each division, as well as nearest the pin and other spot prizes. Entry fees and proceeds from the raffle made £834.00 for the Captains’ charities. Full results are available on HowDidIDo.
